# What Is Apple Intelligence?

[Apple Intelligence](https://www.apple.com/apple-intelligence/) is Apple’s integrated generative AI system and is available on devices running iOS 18+, iPadOS 18+, and macOS Sequoia. It blends on-device and cloud-powered intelligence to assist with communication, visual creativity, task automation, notification management, and more, all with strong privacy protections.

# Enabling Apple Intelligence on Your Cal Poly Device

1. Update your OS to iOS 18.1+, iPadOS 18.1+, macOS Sequoia 15.1+, or visionOS 2.4+.
2. Ensure your device is compatible:

- iPhone: 15 Pro/Pro Max, 16/16 Plus/Pro/Pro Max
- iPad: Devices with M1 chips or newer
- Mac: M1-based systems or later

3. All language settings (device & Siri) must align and be supported.
4. **Navigate to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri and toggle it on.**
  *Check and consent to additional services like ChatGPT if desired.*

# Privacy, Security & Limitations

**Privacy-first design:** Core processing occurs on-device with Private Cloud Compute.

**Transparency:** Additional logs are accessible to users and open to independent auditing.

**Local-first:** Most tasks run without internet; cloud is used only for complex tasks.

**Limitations:** Some Siri generative features are still under development.
